FOCIS Centers of Excellence (FCE) Collaboration Travel Grants

FOCIS Centers of Excellence Collaboration Travel Grants

To expand the FCE network and further strengthen FOCIS’s global presence, FOCIS now offers the FCE Collaboration Travel Grant—an exclusive opportunity for FCEs.

Through this grant, FOCIS actively supports collaborative initiatives and research-sharing efforts. By providing financial assistance, the program aims to enhance communication and foster scientific exchange among FCE centers.

The number and size of grants vary based on available resources and other considerations. For example, in 2023, FOCIS awarded two grants of $1,500 each. These grants specifically fund collaborations between two or more FCEs that occur outside the FOCIS Annual Meeting. As a result, recipients may not use the funds to attend FOCIS educational courses or the Annual Meeting.

Grant Requirements

Eligibility Requirements

  • Open exclusively to FCEs and current FOCIS members.
  • All participating organizations must be officially recognized as FOCIS Centers of Excellence (FCEs).
  • Each individual participant must:
    • Be affiliated with a designated FOCIS FCE, and
    • Hold active FOCIS membership before the project begins.

Submission Requirements

To apply for funding, applicants must submit the following materials:

  • A detailed description of the proposed collaboration or travel plan. This should include the project overview, specific objectives, any techniques to be learned, and the anticipated impact on the project (if applicable).
  • CVs for all applicants involved in the collaboration.
  •  letter of support from the principal investigators of each participating FCE. This becomes especially important if a trainee is submitting the application directly.
  •  preliminary budget that clearly outlines and justifies how the requested funds (up to $1,500) will be used.

Each component helps FOCIS assess the value, feasibility, and collaborative potential of the proposed initiative.

Recipient Requirements

Once selected, recipients must meet the following obligations:

  • Complete the proposed project or travel within 12 months of receiving the award notification.
  • Request reimbursement for eligible expenses, following FOCIS reimbursement guidelines
  • Submit a final report summarizing the collaboration and any resulting outcomes. FOCIS plans to publish this report in its quarterly newsletter and on the FOCIS website. Additionally, FOCIS may share the report with any external sponsors who contributed funding to the program.

By meeting these requirements, recipients help demonstrate the value of FCE collaboration and contribute to the broader FOCIS community.

Grant Deadlines

Submissions will be considered twice annually by the FCE committee. Submission deadlines are May 15 and November 15.
